Baltimore tumbling down the Power Rankings as Denver eyes the top spot

1. Columbus Clappers 5-1
The Clappers dominated in Week 2 winning their games 10-4 and 9-4 against the Burgers and Sail.  Week 3 was slightly more unkind to the Clappers as they dropped their first game of the season to the undefeated Denver Omelets.  The vegetarian Clappers were meatless against Denver and Dyno Mike and company took advantage leading them to a 6-4 victory.  Meat returned in the game versus the Baguettes and proved to be the difference scoring 6 goals in the close 8-7 victory.  The Clappers stay atop the Power Rankings for now, but Denver has a strong claim to take over the number 1 spot.
2. Denver Omelets 6-0 (+1)
The Omelets are sizzling as Denver took down the Clappers in Columbus and solidified their spot as the number 2 team in the Power Rankings with a strong case for the number 1 spot as the sole remaining undefeated team.  Denver also notched a 7-6 win versus a strong Virginia Express team as well as beating the Smokers by the same score last week and a comfortable 5 point victory versus the Burgers.  The Omelets stand alone at the top of the standings and will look to move to 8-0 if they can handle business versus the Hoots and Sail this week.
3. Carolina Smokers 5-1 (-1)
The Smokers have been keeping pace with the top teams, going 3-1 in the past 2 weeks, with their sole loss coming at the hands of the red hot Omelets.  Carolina handled Chicago and Honolulu with ease this week and look forward to a massive game against the Clappers this week to try to take over number 2 in the standings.  Last season’s regular season MVP is looking to repeat as Rodeo has 11 more points than second place on the season – he is first in goals (29) and third in assists (16).
4. Virginia Express 3-3 (+3)
Virginia has rebounded nicely from their brutal week 1 versus the Clappers and Smokers by going 3-1 in Weeks 2 and 3.  Their only 3 losses have been to the top 3 teams and they had a chance to knock of undefeated Denver in Week 3.  Virginia handled Honolulu, Chicago and Quebec winning all three games by at least 3.  The Express look to stay far away from the bottom of the standings if they can take care of the Burgers, the only team they have yet to play, and then will look for revenge against Carolina who beat the Express 10-7 in the first meeting.
5. Quebec Baguettes 1-5 (+1)
In the race to stay away from demotion, the Baguettes have been the most competitive team in the 4-team pack.  Quebec went 1-3 in the last two weeks including 1 point losses to Carolina and Columbus, but was also doubled up 6-3 by Virginia.  Quebec has been playing much better recently than the team that lost 8-4 to the Burgers.  The Baguettes have a chance to redeem that loss by splitting the series if they can take down Baltimore this time around in Week 4.  They will also get their first crack at the Sail to try to begin separating themselves from the bottom.
6. Chicago Sail 2-4 (-1)
Chicago also went 1-3 in the previous two weeks, but has been far less competitive outside of a 5-3 win versus Baltimore.  The sail collected a trio of 5 point losses to the Smokers, Clappers and Express.  This week won’t be any easier with games against an emerging Baguettes team and the first place Omelets.  The offense hasn’t been clicking recently and will need to get on track quickly if they want to keep pace with those two potent offenses.
7. Baltimore Burgers 1-5 (-3)
Baltimore had the worst 2 week stretch of any team, going 0-4 including a crushing OT defeat to Honolulu.  The Burgers have been struggling with the loss of Delvige and have scored the fewest goals (30) and least amount of assists (18) in the Pro division.  Still, Baltimore has a chance to stay ahead of Quebec in the standings (they lead Quebec by 1 point due to an OT loss) and steer clear of the demotion line if they can take care of the Baguettes this week and look for the season sweep Quebec, as the Bags are the sole win for Baltimore this season.  It will be a tall task to take down Virginia, but Baltimore does have playmakers, they just need to get clicking before it is too late.
8. Honolulu Hootenannys 1-5
Honolulu finally notched its first victory of the year against Baltimore, but still conceded a point to the Burgers with the game going to overtime, meaning Honolulu has still yet to finish a game in regulation with the lead.  The Hoots lost their other 3 games in Weeks 2 and 3 including a 10 point drubbing to Carolina.  It would be nice to think the win in their last game might turn things around for Honolulu, but they will have to play Columbus and Denver this week, so those plans for a turnaround might have to wait a week, but if they could pull out a victory in one of those games it would be a huge morale boost for the struggling team.

Best Selling Jerseys of the Week:  Chef Reno/Balucha – Virginia fans are feeling hopeful for a run towards the top of the standings and confident that they can continue watching their team in Pro Division next season as the Express have gotten back on track.  Chef Reno notched 7 goals and 5 saves in Week 3.  Meanwhile in Denver, the hype towards a potential championship ramps up to a fever pitch and jersey sales are soaring.  Balucha has been an anchor on the defensive side and fans are looking to complete their collection of jerseys.
